Belly fat from menopause

by Andrea Perreault
(Canada)

I am 54 yrs old and always been tiny with a good shape. Last year I started getting a tire around my waist and stomach. I used to read about this but never though it would happen to me for I had such a tiny waist. Now I can't find any clothes that don't show the bulge although I am tiny everywhere. I am 5'2 and I weigh 120 pounds. I am starting at the gym and hope to get read of it. Please tell me it can be done :).

Menopause Belly Fat
by: Candice

Yes, Andrea it can be done, but maybe not at the gym. I have just been reading up on hormones and weight gain.

I have discovered that having your estrogen/progesterone in balance is very important for avoiding belly fat and weight gain in general. (I have just added a couple of pages about this: Progesterone and Weight Gain, and Estrogen and Weight Gain.

Also, if you have not read my page on Menopause Weight Loss Supplements, please do (just use the search button at the top right of each page to find these pages easily). I have recently tried some new supplements that are helping me lose weight. I have no more cravings, which used to keep me from staying on my food plan.

Of course the gym is a great place to get healthy and stay healthy. Exercise boosts endorphins (which help with good moods), reduces toxins in your blood, and gives you stamina for other activities you might enjoy, like hiking or whatever you like to do. Good luck to you. You can do it!
